Ashburton Advocacy support clients to have their voices heard by standing alongside them in a wide variety of situations, such as WINZ processes, tenancy difficulties, employment disputes, and other circumstances that are proving too stressful for them to handle alone.
We provide short term support for people who need help to navigate an issue. Overseen by our Advocacy co-ordinator, our volunteers meet our clients and evaluate their situation and assist them to plan the way forward. The volunteer can then support the client to work towards the goal and in any processes or meetings that will advance their situation.
Volunteers with Ashburton Advocacy require skills in listening and empathy as well as negotiation and an ability to navigate difficult situations.
