Neighbourhood Support Secretary

Are you organised, detail-oriented, and keen to support your community? South Canterbury Neighbourhood Support is looking for a Secretary to join our friendly and supportive Committee.

About the Role
As Secretary, you’ll play a key role in keeping the organisation running smoothly. You’ll manage records, support meetings, and help ensure we meet our legal and constitutional requirements.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Preparing agendas and taking minutes for Committee meetings and AGMs
  • Managing records, including Committee member registers and documentation
  • Handling correspondence and supporting communication across the organisation
  • Assisting with compliance requirements (e.g. reporting to relevant agencies)
  • Supporting events, awareness activities, and general administration
Requirements:

Key Requirements:

  • Strong organisation and communication skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Confidence using computers and basic admin systems
  • Understanding of confidentiality and privacy
  • Completion of Neighbourhood Support NZ (NSNZ) security clearance including:
    • Police Vetting Check
    • Code of Conduct signed

Desirable Attributes:

  • Previous experience in administrative or secretarial roles
  • Knowledge of incorporated societies requirements
  • Understanding of the diverse communities across South Canterbury

All training will be given to the preferred applicant.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Approximately 3-4 hours per month (higher during meeting periods) including one meeting per month for 1-1.5 hours and AGM in September.

Our monthly meetings are held during work hours usually from 1:30-2:30pm. Preference given to attending in person however, ability to join via Teams is also available. Meetings are held at the Timaru Police Station.
