Support for Refugee Families

The role is to offer assistance and support to help refugee families get settled and adjust into their life as new residents in Timaru.

OBJECTIVE:
To ensure refugee families receive quality support during their settlement journey.

FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS WITH:
Refugee Settlement Volunteer Coordinator
Refugee Settlement Manager
Refugee Settlement Services staff
Family Works General Manager

Requirements:

Punctuality, reliability, interest in people, open to new cultures, good communication skills, trustworthy, commitment to attend as many training programme meetings as possible.

Skills Required
• Warm, friendly personality
• Good communication and listening skills
• A clear speaking voice
• Good working knowledge of Timaru community facilities is very desirable
• Some walking may be involved from time to time
• Interest in other cultures
• Valid driver’s licence desirable but not essential
• Experience working with children is desirable but not essential

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Volunteers work in teams and the time commitment for this role is flexible. It is entirely up to the volunteer's availability and willingness to commit.
