Companion of new Refugee families

The Refugee Settlement Service are preparing for another intake of families to arrive in the next couple of months. The families vary in size and ages and will be living in Ashburton and / or Tinwald. We are looking for new volunteers to help these families settle in. The role of a volunteer is like a friend in the community. They provide companionship, outings, assistance with shopping and English language practice through conversations over a cup of tea. We do all the hard stuff so you don't have to. It's a great way to experience a different culture and to make a difference to the lives of our newcomers. This role is very rewarding and we offer training and great support.

Requirements:

To be flexible, have a sense of humor and be willing to help someone from a different culture adapt to life in New Zealand.

Volunteers need a police check to be completed.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

It varies. Could be a couple of hours a week or more. It all depends how much time you have and would like to put into it.
