Civil Defence Welfare Centre Volunteer

Are you a community minded person, who has empathy, is a team player and wants to help your fellow humans?

Around the country teams of Civil Defence volunteers are trained to respond to a variety of Civil Defence emergencies such as floods, fire, earthquakes, eruptions, tsunamis, weather events working in Civil Defence Welfare Centres.

Ashburton District Civil Defence are looking for more volunteers.

Volunteers receive extensive training and once trained continue to receive training and support.

Requirements:

To be a volunteer with Civil Defence you need to be community minded, be ready and willing to assist in an emergency. Civil Defence volunteers need to be team players, who have good communications skills, can work well under pressure, are able to remain calm and focused while working in a pressured and stressful environment. You will need to be empathic and flexible. Civil Defence volunteers can be deployed locally as well as around New Zealand, therefore volunteers need to be prepared to be away from family and friends, work, and other commitments.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Attendance at monthly trainings is required. Some trainings are 2hrs on a weekday evening others are a full Saturday. The time required to actually attend to a Civil Defence emergency depends on the nature of the emergency
