Housework and/or Food Preparation Support - Maori Hill

We are looking for a volunteer to join our Outreach team to help support a family who live in Māori Hill, Timaru. Mum lives with chronic illness that restricts her ability to manage the household chores. One of her teenage sons has also recently been diagnosed with ME/CFS.

Did you know? People with ME/CFS, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis /Chronic Fatigue Syndrome have a reduced level of functionality that means they cannot complete normal activities of daily living. An additional burden is that doing too much physically or mentally can trigger Post-Exertional Malaise – a worsening of symptoms that can last for days or more.

Help is required for gardening.

Specific tasks to be discussed and agreed between volunteer and client. Volunteers are free to indicate what they are willing to do and what they are not.

We are able to cover travel costs if required, including bus fee or car travel at the IRD Tier 2 rate per km (currently 31 cents per km).

  • Enjoy cleaning and tidying
  • Some basic food preparation skills

A Police background check is required for this role.

Any help and any frequency would be appreciated.
