Volunteers are the heart and soul of many communities, offering their time, energy, and skills to support countless causes. Their efforts often go unnoticed, but this month, Volunteering Mid & South Canterbury is proud to launch a new initiative to ensure that these everyday heroes are recognized. The Volunteer of the Month (VoM) Awards will shine a spotlight on the incredible individuals who selflessly dedicate their time to make our communities better places.
The VoM Awards, sponsored by local businesses including Saikou Timaru, Sopheze Coffee & Lounge, The Warehouse, Fairlie Bakehouse, and H & J Bruce Transport, The Timaru Courier, aim to celebrate and acknowledge the hard work of volunteers in the region. Every month, one volunteer will be selected for the title of Volunteer of the Month, based on nominations submitted by their organizations.
The goal of the initiative is simple: to give back to the volunteers who give so much of themselves to others. Whether it's lending a helping hand at a local food bank, organizing community events, or supporting people in need, volunteers make a tangible difference every day. The VoM Awards offer an opportunity to thank them publicly and celebrate their contributions.
Volunteering Mid & South Canterbury invites local organizations to nominate a volunteer who exemplifies the true spirit of giving. If you know a volunteer who consistently goes above and beyond, this is your chance to shine a light on their hard work and dedication.
Each month, nominated volunteers will be considered for the award, and the selected individual will receive recognition, including prizes and the acknowledgment of their contribution to the community. This not only boosts the morale of the volunteer but also encourages others to get involved and contribute their time.
The impact of volunteers extends far beyond just the tasks they perform. They help strengthen the bonds within our communities by offering support, care, and a sense of belonging. Volunteers play a crucial role in making sure that no one is left behind, especially those who may need a little extra help.
By recognizing these individuals, Volunteering Mid & South Canterbury hopes to inspire others to get involved and encourage a culture of giving throughout the region. The VoM Awards will also highlight the wide variety of work that volunteers do—from supporting vulnerable individuals and families to organizing fundraising events, and everything in between.
The Volunteer of the Month Awards is not just about recognition; it’s about celebrating the powerful effect volunteers have on our community. It’s an opportunity to say “thank you” for the countless hours, hard work, and passion that go into helping others. Volunteers are essential to the success of many programs and services, and this initiative is one small way to show gratitude for all they do.
As the program rolls out, Volunteering Mid & South Canterbury looks forward to honoring those who make our world a better place through their selflessness and dedication. Volunteers truly are the unsung heroes of our communities, and it's time we give them the recognition they deserve.
If you know a volunteer who goes above and beyond to make a difference, consider nominating them for the Volunteer of the Month award. Together, let’s celebrate and honor the everyday heroes who make our communities stronger and more connected.
