New year’s bring new beginnings. After seven and a half years as the Mid Canterbury Manager of Volunteering Mid & South Canterbury it has come time for me (Dellwyn) to move on to new adventures and allow someone to take Volunteering Mid & South Canterbury in the Ashburton District on the next part of its journey.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with VMSC.

There are so many highlights I can’t possibly list them all. I have been fortunate to be involved in many wonderful events. It has been rewarding to organise and be involved in occasions to recognise volunteers particularly the Hotel Ashburton Volunteer of the Month and the Youth Volunteer Awards.

It has been good to have provided a range of educational workshops to help volunteers and For Purpose groups grow and my appreciation to those who have facilitated these. Our two most popular ones have been the cultural awareness an the mental well being and it’s great that these and others have been facilitated by amazing people from with in our own community.

I have enjoyed watching our organisation grow locally to now be the one stop shop for all things volunteering in Mid Canterbury.

It has been rewarding to match volunteers and For Purpose organisations up. It’s been uplifting to help volunteers find a role that brings them joy and they feel they are making a difference in. I have been fortunate to work with many great coordinators, leaders, and Manager of Volunteer engaging organisations. I have learnt much from you.

It’s been a privilege in my role to sit on several groups in the community and be the voice for volunteers has been something I have enjoyed. I have particularly valued being part of Mid Canterbury Funders Forum and the Ashburton District Welfare committee.

Thank you to the sponsors, funders and business that have supported Volunteering Mid & South Canterbury especially the Hotel Ashburton, Community Trust Mid-South Canterbury, Ashburton District Council, Advance Ashburton, the Lion Foundation, COCS, DIA and Lottery and the Ashburton Courier.

It’s been fun working across the generation from students and pupils to those working and to many willing volunteers residing in our rest homes – there are no limitations to our volunteering.

I’m grateful for the opportunities I have had to promote volunteering especially at Ashburton College, through Ashburton Courier, Ashburton Guardian and Hokonui Radio.

Some of the most rewarding, fun and fulfilling things about the job have been to community projects often done in conjunction with others – Poppy Flight, Cuddle Hearts, “We’ve got you covered Canterbury”, Letters of Love, Save the Planet, Save Lives, of course the Kings Coronation, to name some of them.

I tell people I am a match maker (I am a Marriage Celebrant) but I match those who want to volunteer with those looking for volunteers, so I hope like a happy marriage that those I have helped match up have had and continue to have a long, happy, and great relationship.

Thank you everyone it’s been rewarding, enriching and great to work with you all.

One of my passions is being part of and serving my community and this role has certainly allowed me to do that.

I am moving on to being a reporter with our great community newspaper the Ashburton Courier.

Thank you to my colleague in our South Canterbury office Haidee, especially for your work on funding applications and accountability reports. Thank you, to the Board of Volunteering Mid & South Canterbury for giving me the opportunity to work in this role.

Mauruuru koe. Nga mihi pai mo nga ra kei mua.
Thank you. Best wishes for the future
