Volunteer of the Month – August Honouring Margaret Finnie

For nearly nine years, Margaret Finnie has been a quiet yet powerful presence at the 54 Church Hospice Shop. Twice a week, without fail, she dedicates full days to cleaning donations — transforming items that arrive in less-than-ideal condition into sparkling treasures ready for the shop floor.

“Margaret works tirelessly behind the scenes, scrubbing, polishing, and washing,” says Noeleen Gillson, Manager of the shop. “The transformation she brings to donations is incredible, and the value her work adds to the shop is immeasurable.”

But what truly sets Margaret apart is her attitude. In all the years they’ve worked together, Noeleen has never heard a cross word from her. She doesn’t seek recognition or praise — she simply shows up, often already hard at work before anyone even notices.

Margaret’s consistency, kindness, and humility have made her an irreplaceable part of the 54 Church team. Though she prefers to fly under the radar, those who know her agree — she is truly a remarkable lady.
