About the Role
• Position: Volunteer Services Coordinator, South Canterbury
• Hours: 30 hours per week (flexible by negotiation), permanent
• Location: Timaru, with travel within Mid and South Canterbury required
• Reports to: Chairperson, Board of Trustees
• Review: Annually
What You Will Do
This is a hands-on role. You will be responsible for:
• Leading the strategic direction of Volunteering Mid & South Canterbury in alignment with organisational goals, working closely with the Board of Trustees to deliver on plans and priorities.
• Coordinating and growing volunteer referral services across the region — we currently manage over 100 active volunteer roles and refer around 40–50 applicants per month to community organisations.
• Building and nurturing relationships with diverse stakeholders, including local councils, community organisations, charities, NGOs, funders, and government agencies.
• Organising and delivering community events, workshops, and networking opportunities such as drop-in sessions, peer support meetups, professional development trainings, and sector forums.
• Managing funding applications and accountability reporting to funders.
• Overseeing day-to-day administrative operations, including social media and website management, database updates, and compliance reporting.
• Supporting and mentoring staff and volunteers, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment where people want to contribute.
• Representing Volunteering Mid & South Canterbury at community events, board meetings, and sector forums.
What You Will Bring
• Experience in administration.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship management skills.
• An understanding of the community and not-for-profit sector.
• Experience in project coordination, event management, and group facilitation.
• The ability to think strategically while balancing risk with opportunity.
• A proven ability to deal with conflict and navigate challenging situations.
• A genuine respect for diversity and a commitment to inclusive practice.
• Experience with grant applications and funder reporting is an advantage.
Other Requirements
• A current, clean New Zealand driver's licence.
• A clean criminal record.
• New Zealand residency or a valid New Zealand work visa.
