South Canterbury Plunket - GPS (Giving People Support) Home Visitor

Become part of a Families support network. We have many Families in our community who require a little additional support, this could be helping parents preparing meals, interacting and engaging with children, attending appointments with the family or simply being a supportive listening ear.
Our GPS families all have at least one child/children under the age of 5.
Some of our Mum's are post-caesarean or Mums of multiple births, These Mums may require a little extra support while they adjust. Also Solo Mums and solo Dads. Families who have moved to our community and don't have any support network here yet. Help attending local play/music movement groups. Assistance with routine at home. These are some of the many reasons we need you to Volunteer to support young families locally.
The GPS Coordinator fully supports you with training & visits until you feel comfortable and matches' you with a family that supports your interests and skills.

Requirements:

Maternal skills, basic household task knowledge, caring ear.

It is a requirement to have a Police background check (A form to fill out with a photocopy of photo ID) which will be covered in the initial training.
Physical health to get to the clients home & be comfortable to assist with children & light household help. e.g., vacuum, help fold washing, hold babies.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

1 - 2 hours weekly usually for 1 - 3 months.
This is a guideline and can be more or less as your time allows.
Volunteers can pair up if they wish to.
Job sharing is also an option if maybe you have less time to offer support.
Very flexible to fit in with your lifestyle.
